Accountability

Often we look outside ourselves to place the burden of accountability. It is a sensitive topic when it involves trauma and abuse. Similar to forgiveness, accountability is an inside job. Without forgiving ourselves we can not hold ourselves accountable for the role we play in our story.

It is not to say that the other players are not accountable but it is not your responsibility to hold that burden for them. A powerful part of trauma recovery involves forgiving yourself for not knowing any better and learning to hold yourself accountable when you do know better.
