Ubiquity
Omnipresence. Like water. This last week I experienced an existential crisis on the home front. Mine was one of many families effected by the winter storm. Although I never lost power or wi-fi I did lose water. My very existence depended on how and where I was going to preserve the little amount of clean water I had. My neighbors and I were all in the same boat, no pun intended.
Within the neighborhood chat thru the Ring app there was advice, panic and some heated opinions on complaining about the situation. Until this one neighbor posted in response to the outpour of asking who if anyone has water. He wrote he has plenty of water, but it is all frozen and covering his yard in some kind of white powder.
Besides having a laugh at this guys sense of humor I appreciated the lightheartedness it showed in what felt like a desperate situation. There is always a way of looking at the bright side of things no matter how dire things seem. Just when you think you can’t go on, you surprise yourself and do. The ubiquity of water is a metaphor for just that. It is everywhere, sometimes it just requires us to think outside the box.
